Why We Created Alpha
Alpha has been created to develop the learning potential of students beyond the restrictions of the school system. Children are natural learners but all too often the strong desire to learn diminishes when they enter school. A significant number of students become disengaged because of a mismatch between need and provision.
A radical approach, embracing a multifaceted curriculum expressed via a sophisticated digital learning facility, was required to create high motivation and engagement amongst this student body.
We employ the Freedom to Learn model of learning which encourages our young digital natives to think on a global scale and become the entrepreneurs, environmental guardians and change catalysts of the 21st century.
Via the extensive digital facility, Alpha students are able to access global learning opportunities which deepen experience and enhance empathy, discernment and social responsibility.
The Alpha learning environment is innovative and flexible; it allows students to engage in a wide range of learning activities which are stimulating to the intellect and which enhance emotional and social function. Students enjoy a protected learning environment which enables them to reach their full potential via mentorship, inquiry, investigation and the creation of valid product.
They form a community of learners who can engage in collaborative learning activities with other Alpha students and also with students worldwide.
They also develop advanced digital literacy skills as opportunities to report on work and to publish their work extend as far as current multi-media opportunities will allow.
Students may be involved in in-depth research, collaborative activity or on-line mentoring; the fast pace and variety provided by a digital learning environment creates passionate engagement and the confidence and energy to embrace the intellectual risk-taking which fuels creativity and originality of thought.
